In a culture where politics, social structures and the media omit expressions of truth and depth about the lives of people who have been incarcerated, ManAlive was a venue for self-representation. The performances provided opportunities for audiences to listen to the experiences and ideas of people whose stories are rarely heard. Using a creative process of generating text and movement through improvisations and writings based on life experiences and beliefs of the performers/authors, the stories were woven together and crafted into an evening length original dance/theater piece. ManAlive was performed 2010 through 2012.
Artists: Antonio Johnson, Reggie Daniels, Ivan Corado-Vega, Freddy Gutierrez. Co-directors: Amie Dowling, Natalie Greene & Paul Flores.
